Itinerary
After picking you up from the airport we take you to a hotel near the center of the city. Spend the day exploring or relaxing. Tonight we meet and greet at Onward HQ for our tour briefing. Early tomorrow our adventure begins.
We meet early at our Onward Garage, suit up and roar out of the city. Today we take a lesser known dirt trail through Georgia’s semi-desert region. We ride a stones throw away from the Azerbaijan border stopping at forgotten monasteries with caves carved in to the sandstone cliffs. Tonight we stay at a family guesthouse in the hilltop town of Signagi located in the heart of Georgia’s wine growing region.
After a hearty breakfast we mount our noble steeds and will spend the day exploring Georgia’s Kakheti region. We roll through sprawling vineyards and stop at Queen Tamar’s medieval fortress. Tonight we stay in Telavi, considered among the most historically significant areas in the country due to its well preserved archeological sites from four separate time periods.
Today is all about the views! We ride high into the northern Caucasus mountains to the historic highland village of Shatili. We explore the massive fortress consisting of over 60 towers clustered together. Most bikers stop here….but not us. We continue even further until the end of the road to explore the Anatori Crypts and historic fortified dwellings of Mutso.
We snake our way back down the mountain and then proceed north on the Georgian Military road, a route used by invaders and traders throughout the ages. We pass numerous ancient fortresses and mountain ranges only to arrive at the valley town of Stepantsminda to enjoy one of the most stunning views in all of Georgia. We will ride up to the famous Gergeti Trinity Church to take it all in. Tonight we eat like Georgian Kings and celebrate the last night of our tour.
Today we ride south back to Tbilisi through Georgia’s oldest National Park. We stop at a local non-profit bear rescue sanctuary and if we are lucky, we get to handfeed these magnificent creatures some tasty treats. We then head to the garage for oat sodas and pizza.
